there are still good guys in the world. exhibit a:

my grandfathers wake was on friday. he was 89, on dialysis and his passing probably came as a surprise to no one but us. at the wake were all of the expected: his grandkids, his children, his wife, and our friends extending their sympathies.

there was one person i couldnt place. he was young and wearing what i took for an EMT uniform. he took the time to look over all the photos my mom had laid out, knelt by the coffin for a while, and then knelt by my grandma and held her hand for a bit, which caught my attention. i asked my uncle who he was. he told me that he was my grandpas ambulette driver, who took him to dialysis every other day, and would check on him halfway through the procedure to make sure he was ok (which in itself is above and beyond)

i cant tell you what it means to know that my grandpa was well cared for, and that he made such an impression that this 22 year old guy had the guts to come to a wake where he knew no one just to say goodbye to his friend.
